Through the years, Crete has remained a friendly, caring community.  It is a charming village of delightful shops small businesses, and relaxed dining much as it has been for more that 150 years.  Today, Crete is holding fast to its traditions while looking confidently to the future.

CRETE is noted for its numerous antique shops and local artisan boutiques.

Balmoral Race Track (historic Lincoln Fields) features live harness racing and group dining year round. It hosts the Crete Art Fair (now in its 28th year) and the annual Antique Expo

The Warrior Dome at Crete-Monee High School is the site of many regional athletic events.

Governors State University, just six miles away in University Park, presents theatrical and musical productions, seminars and community enrichment programs. Some other cultural offers within close proximity are the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra and the Illinois Theatre Center, in addition to numerous other groups that provide quality leisure time activities for residents and visitors.

Hotels/Convention Facilities
Many hotels and conference centers are within 10-15 minutes of Crete via modern interstate highways.

  • Village Woods Retirement/Conference Center- For banquets and conferences.

Public Library
The Crete Public Library is located at 534 First Street, near Crete Park. It is open 64 hours per week. Land has recently been acquired for a new library facility on North Main Street.

Recreation
Crete now boasts six 18-hole golf courses which are open to the public. Goodenow Grove Forest Preserve encompasses 660 acres including Plum Creek Nature Center open year round with a naturalist on staff. Also on the grounds are a sledding hill, camping facilities, cross country skiing and hiking trails. Crete Park District offers year round hobby and athletic programs. Other recreational opportunities include horseback riding at numerous private stables, campling, bowling, fishing and more.

Healthcare
Medical/Dental 3 Physicians & 5 Dentists have their offices in Crete or Crete Township. 3 full-time hospitals are nearby, with 2 of these just 5 minutes from Crete.

Nursing/Retirement Facilities: St. James Manor, affiliated with St. James Hospital Rest Haven/Village Woods, affiliated with the Christian Reformed Church.

Social Services: Various Agencies serve the needs of Crete residents, including Aunt Martha's Youth Services, Family Counseling Agency, The Crete Pantry, Eastern Will County Senior services and Crete Township General Assistance.
